Possible Late Summer/Fall Native Flowers & Seeds 🐝🦋

 · Black-eyed Susan(Rudbeckia hirta): Cheerful yellow, daisy-like flowers with a long bloom time that can last until early October.

· Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica): Features beautiful spikes of bright blue to violet-blue flowers that bloom from July into September.

· Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea): Although its peak is summer, the blooms and seed heads hold structure and color late into the season and attract goldfinches.

These herbaceous plants are the powerhouse of fall color and are critical for pollinators.

· Asters (Symphyotrichum spp.): The most essential fall-blooming native. They provide a vital nectar source for migrating Monarch butterflies.  (Often purple, pink, or white,      daisy-like flowers)

o New England Aster(S. novae-angliae): Tall, robust, with deep purple/pink flowers that bloom until frost (Aug–Oct).

o Smooth Blue Aster (S. laeve): Violet-blue flowers with attractive, smooth foliage (Aug–Oct).

o New York Aster (S. novi-belgii): A prolific bloomer that provides excellent fall color (Jul–Oct).

· Goldenrods (Solidago spp.): These plants get an unfair bad reputation (they rarely cause hay fever, which is typically caused by ragweed). They are a keystone species for late-season pollinators.

o Wrinkleleaf Goldenrod (S. rugosa): Very adaptable with arching yellow blooms (Sep–Oct).

o Showy Goldenrod (S. speciosa): Features dense yellow plumes and is an easy, late-season workhorse.

· Joe-Pye Weed (Eutrochium spp.):Tall, sturdy perennials with large, domed clusters of tiny, pinkish-purple flowers.

o They bloom from late summer into September and are a huge magnet for butterflies.

· White Turtlehead (Chelone glabra): Features unique, turtle-head-shaped white or pink-tinged flowers that bloom August to October. It's a host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly.

· Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale): Daisy-like flowers in yellow, orange, or reddish-brown that bloom from late summer until frost.
