From early childhood, backyard lilacs recall beauty, lovely scents, and gigantic shrubbery from a 4 year old. Many lilac shrubs live to be more than 100 years old, spanning generations in a family.
Today visit NJ Yards to pick a fragrant shrub that fits your very own landscape and are for native friendly yards. Above photo is their recommendation from Jersey Friendly Yards. Also supported site by our local SW chapter of NPSNJ Society.

Space medium-sized lilac shrubs that are 6-8 ft tall at maturity, 2-4 ft apart. Once mature, the plants can spread to 10-12 ft wide!
Mid May is the best time for viewing lilacs at the NJ Botanical Gardens.
